Oregon Section Advertising Policy (April 2007)
This document describes how fee-based advertising and free advertising helps the Oregon Section accomplish its mission and the procedures by which advertising is accomplished.
Rationale for Fee-Based Advertising
Advertising can be valuable to Oregon Section membership by providing awareness of continuing education and employment opportunities already matched to their professional interests and skills, and allowing members and their companies to market their services.
Collecting fees in return for advertising helps the Oregon section remain financially healthy and helps ensure that advertising is not frivolous or inappropriate.
Acceptable Advertisers
- Help wanted (company, academia or search firm)
- Work wanted (person for hire)
- Continuing Education (academia, private/3rd party or IEEE sponsored)
- Events (academia, private/3rd party or IEEE sponsored)
- Professional and engineering services (consultants, service providers)
Format, Size, Placement and Frequency of Advertising
Format: Advertising must be provided in electronic format. Acceptable formats are:
- Text (MS Word, email text)
- Text with link to HTML page
- Adobe PDF (for placement on Section web site with link)
- GIF
Size and Mixed Ads: Advertisements for inclusion in the BEEEP e-newsletter may be any size, up to standard 8.5" x 11"; however, there is no discount for a smaller size ad. Links to an offsite web page are encouraged. Any advertiser may embed multiple or mixed copy in a single document. However, one advertiser may not embed third party advertisements into unused space without prior approval.
Placement: The Oregon Section is expected to present advertising to its members and in some cases the public using the following methods:
- Section Web Site Marketplace ( www.ieee-or.org/marketplace ) accessible to members and the public
- Section Newsletter (BEEEP) email announcement accessible to members only
- Section Newsletter (BEEEP) PDF accessible to members and the public on web
Frequency: Continuous for section web site and monthly for newsletter. However, newsletter issues will be archived on the web site.
Fees for Advertising (Rate Card)
- IEEE Sponsored Courses and Events: No fee. All IEEE sponsored or co-sponsored courses and events may request advertising from the Oregon Section at no cost. Such advertising is provided as an intra-society professional courtesy, and with the expectation that there will be a quid pro quo with other IEEE entities.
- Advertising
- Help wanted ads from qualified principals who help fulfill our mission: No fee. Free advertising may be limited to either the web marketplace or the BEEEP, i.e., there is no guarantee that free ads will be placed using both methods.
Advertising copy in one of the above specified formats should be emailed to the site administrator admin@ieee-or.org.
- All other advertising: The following fee structure applies to all other non-IEEE advertising, and is subject to change upon executive committee approval. The minimum fee is the one-month cost.
- 1-2 months = $100 per month
- 3-6 months = $80 per month (20% discount)
- 7-9 months = $70 per month (30% discount)
- 10+ months = $60 per month (40% discount)
- Expiration date: All ads (whether free or fee-based) must include an expiration date. It is recommended that this expiration date be provided as an unobtrusive footer. The expiration date for a free ad must be one month, but can be renewed on request.
